54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
We can have a lot of different levels of faith. Seen here, the centurion doubted that Jesus was the Son of God at first. Similar to the many jews then who saw Jesus also doubted. Why did they doubt? Firstly let us not blame them, for most of them did not see Jesus' miracles first hand nor experience His power. Moreover, some of them did not even meet Him before! There there were also many rumours of Jesus. probably good and bad. Given these conditions, i would say it is hard to believe. These people do not even have a relationship with Jesus.
Now the question is do YOU have the faith? You may have experienced Jesus in your life, in some way, maybe directly or witnessed His power through friends or healing of people. The question is after experiencing God in all kinds of ways, do you still doubt that Jesus exist? After the centurions witnessed the mighty power that Jesus commanded, they proclaimed that Jesus is the Son of God. The question that for you, how many of these kinds of instances does it take for you to believe, to just have the faith?
