Judges 15:1-6 NIV
Later on, at the time of wheat harvest, Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. He said, “I’m going to my wife’s room.” But her father would not let him go in. “I was so sure you hated her,” he said, “that I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more attractive? Take her instead.” Samson said to them, “This time I have a right to get even with the Philistines; I will really harm them.” So he went out and caught three hundred foxes and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch to every pair of tails, lit the torches and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves. When the Philistines asked, “Who did this?” they were told, “Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because his wife was given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death. From here, it is clear that Samson did not give his wife away, but rather, the wife's dad gave her to his companion instead. However, the day's judgement is flawed, because Samson does not hate his wife. If he really did hate his wife, he would not have said "don't plow my heifer" to his companions. He would have said words of anger to his wife instead.
How many times that we made a judgement that was on no basis? We are not God and not all knowing. Because of that, our relationships and judgement are often plagued with issues arising from miscommunication. If Samson really did hate his wife with a passion, then what her dad did was right, because he had a duty to protect her. In this case, it may be just a case of the dad not liking Samson as he was isralite. Moreover, to give away her was really an insult to Samson.
Keep in mind that at that time, the Philistines are oppressing the Islralites...
The father did not stop just there. He went on to suggest him to take the wife's daughter instead.
So he acted by wreaking havoc because he was denied his wife.
Keep in mind that God was setting up a confrontation to allow the Philistines to be judged by Samson and Israel.
Then the Philistines acted by burning and killing his wife and his father in law along with their house.
